Calendar
Everyone at AMBS has their own calendar associated with their Google account. In theory this should make scheduling meetings and appointments easy, but this works best if we all follow some specific practices. This page focuses on those, and the silent videos illustrate each. For a more general overview of the capabilities in Calendar, see Google's documentation.
Set your working hours
Use these steps to declare times you are not typically available to meet with others.
In Calendar, click ⚙️ > Settings
Scroll down to "Working Hours"
Check "Enable working hours"
Set your working days and hours
Verify that others at AMBS can see that you are free/busy
(The steps below will let people see only that you are busy; they will not let people see the details of what you're doing.)
In Calendar, click ⚙️ > Settings
In the "Settings for my calendars" section, click your personal calendar
Scroll to the "Access permissions" section and verify that the checkbox for "Make available for Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary" is checked and set to "See only free/busy (hide details)" ... unless you want everyone to see details.
(optional) If there are some specific people who should have more privileges on your calendar, add them individually in the "Share with specific people" section. For example, you could give your personal Google account the ability to manage events on your AMBS account, or you could let your supervisor see the details for most events on your calendar.
Things you can do with your calendar (other than managing your own events)
View existing meetings and courses (and copy them to your calendar if needed)
Schedule a meeting with others at AMBS
Set up appointment slots for virtual office hours
Calendar Gotchas
When you create an all day event, Google changes your default "busy/free" status to "free." You can either change it back to busy for that event, or you can enter your all day events as "out of office" (which defaults to busy, not free, and rejects any invitations you might receive for that day).
More gotchas will go here as I encounter them.
