Chapel (Sermon on the Mount)

The links on this page go to subpages with specific instructions for setting up audio and video for hybrid events in the Chapel of the Sermon on the Mount. This page assumes you already know how to use the soundboard (mixer) and video equipment in the chapel for local events, and only highlights unique challenges of hybrid events.

The scenarios listed are only the most common ones. The solutions listed are only one possible way to meet the needs of the scenario. Other options are myriad, and not considered.

Basic Setup

A: Sending Video and Audio to Remote Participants

Example: one or more people at a distance want to see and hear what is happening in the chapel as attendees, or local speakers want their presentation to be heard and seen by people at a distance. All the other scenarios build on this.

Equipment:

  • The AV computer in the sound booth connected to a video conference or live stream, the soundboard (with a USB cable), and the chapel webcam (with a USB cable)

  • The video conference or live stream audio input set to "USB CODEC"

  • The LR faders on the soundboard slid up to 0

B: Receiving Video, Audio, and Presentation Materials from Remote Participants

Example: one or more people at a distance need to speak to those present in the chapel as a worship leader or preacher.

Equipment:

  • Same as for sending video and audio, AND ...

  • The video conference speaker set to "USB CODEC" (so both microphone and speaker are the same)

  • The soundboard fader for ST3 (channels 27-28) slid up to 0

  • The ST3 Input Source button set to USB (see Illustration 1 on this page)

  • The AV computer is connected to the chapel projector

Advanced Scenarios

Sending Presentation Materials (Image Only) to Remote Participants

Example: a presenter has given you their presentation on a USB flash drive and asked you to share it so all participants can see it.

Equipment:

  • If the local participants do not need to see the remote participants ...

    • use Setup A on this page AND

    • Connect the AV computer to the chapel projector

    • Share the screen using the video conference software

  • If the local participants need to see the remote participants (or if the presenter wants to control their own presentation) ...

    • use Setup B on this page AND

    • connect the presenter computer (or a second AV computer) to the video conference (muted)

    • share the screen from the presenter (or secondary) computer

Sending Presentation Materials (with Audio/Video) to Remote Participants

Example: a presenter wants to play a movie clip for both local and remote participants.

Equipment:

  • Same setup as for sharing image-only presentation materials, EXCEPT

  • If the presenter is controlling the presentation, or if a second computer is used for the presentation, avoid feedback loops by

    • Connect the presenter's computer directly to the sound system (using a direct box to convert from computer audio to microphone) and to the projector OR connect the second computer to the ST1 inputs and control the volume using the fader for channels 25-26 (see Illustration 2 on this page)

    • On the AV computer in the soundbooth, mute the microphone and speakers on the computer itself.

In this scenario, there is no good way to see remote participants while the video clip is playing.

Playing Audio without Seeing It on the Projector Screen

Example: a worship leader has asked for "mood music" from a YouTube clip that they want people to hear without seeing the YouTube clip.

Equipment:

  • Set up either basic option AND

  • Connect a second computer to ST1 (channels 25-26) on the soundboard
