Before we get started, let's review some key terms and ideas.


Structure: the deliberate organization of course content, resources, and activities

Cognitive capacity / cognitive load: based on the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning put forth by Clark & Mayer (2016), that states:

    • people have separate channels for processing visual and auditory materials

    • people can only process a few pieces of information in each channel at one time
